Six neighbourhood areas have been designated in Fenland

March Neighbourhood Area

March Town Council applied to Fenland District Council to designate the whole of the parish of March as a neighbourhood area. The application was determined at Planning Committee on 11 December 2013: the whole of the parish of March was designated as March Neighbourhood Area. The area was not designated as a business area.

Regulation 14 Pre-submission Consultation on the Draft March Town Neighbourhood Plan

March Town Council consulted on the Draft March Town Neighbourhood Plan between 20 March and 1 May 2015. The Draft March Town Neighbourhood Plan and full details of the consultation are available on the March Town Council website.

Regulation 16 Publication Consultation on the Submitted March Neighbourhood Plan

March Town Council formally submitted the March Neighbourhood Plan to Fenland District Council in November 2016. This document was subject to a six-week consultation from 9 January to 20 February 2017. 

March Neighbourhood Plan Adopted

The March Neighbourhood Plan was formally 'made' (adopted) by Fenland District Council on 2 November 2017. Details are available on the March Town Council website.


Tydd St Giles Neighbourhood Area

Tydd St Giles Parish Council applied to Fenland District Council to designate the whole of the parish of Tydd St Giles as a neighbourhood area. The application was determined by Planning Committee on 25 June 2014: the whole of the parish was designated as Tydd St Giles Neighbourhood Area. The area was not designated as a business area.

Tydd St Giles Parish Council advised Fenland District Council on the 13 January 2016 that it has taken the decision to no longer progress the Tydd St Giles Neighbourhood Plan.


Parson Drove Neighbourhood Area

Parson Drove Parish Council applied to Fenland District Council to designate the whole of the parish of Parson Drove as a neighbourhood area. The application was determined by Planning Committee on 14 January 2015: the whole of the parish was designated as Parson Drove Neighbourhood Area. The area was not designated as a business area.

Regulation 14 Pre-submission Consultation on the Draft Parson Drove Neighbourhood Plan

Parson Drove Parish Council consulted on the on their draft Neighbourhood Plan between 26 November 2018 and 21 January 2019.

Regulation 16 Publication Consultation on the Submitted Parson Drove Neighbourhood Plan

On 03 September 2019, Parson Drove Parish Council submitted its draft Neighbourhood Plan for examination. 

Examination & Referendum

The plan was independently examined in October and November 2019. The examiner concluded that, subject to applying a small number of modifications, the plan meets the basic conditions and other legal requirements. 

In February 2020, a referendum was held in which local people were invited to vote on whether the Council should use the Parson Drove Neighbourhood Plan when determining planning applications. 

As the Parson Drove Neighbourhood Plan successfully passed referendum, and satisfied all necessary legal requirements, the  Parson Drove Neighbourhood Plan (PDF) [3MB] (opens new window) has now been formally 'made' by Fenland District Council, and is used by the Council when determining planning applications in Parson Drove parish.

Whittlesey Neighbourhood Area

Whittlesey Town Council applied to Fenland District Council to designate the whole of the parish of Whittlesey as a neighbourhood area. The application was determined by Planning Committee on 29 April 2015: the whole of the parish was designated as Whittlesey Neighbourhood Area. The area was not designated as a business area.

Regulation 14 Pre-submission Consultation on the Draft Whittlesey Neighbourhood Plan

Whittlesey Town Council consulted on the draft Whittlesey Neighbourhood Plan (Reg. 14) in July and August 2021. Fenland District Council undertook a screening exercise of the draft Neighbourhood Plan for the purposes of Strategic Environmental Assessment. Regulation 16 Publication Consultation on the Submitted Whittlesey Neighbourhood Plan

In June 2022 Whittlesey Town Council submitted its draft Neighbourhood Plan for Examination. Subject to some modifications the Examiner concluded that the plan met the basic conditions and was subsequently supported at a referendum in February 2023. It was fully 'made' (i.e. adopted) at a meeting of Full Council on 22nd May 2023. The Whittlesey Neighbourhood Plan and related documents are available from the Whittlesey Neighbourhood Plan page.


Doddington Neighbourhood Area

Doddington Parish Council applied to Fenland District Council to designate the whole of the parish of Doddington as a neighbourhood area. The application was determined by Planning Committee on 27 April 2016: the whole of the parish was designated as Doddington Neighbourhood Area. The area was not designated as a business area.

Wimblington & Stonea Neighbourhood Area

Wimblington & Stonea Parish Council applied to Fenland District Council to designate the whole of the parish of Wimblington as a neighbourhood area. The application was determined under delegated powers on 18 March 2021: the whole of the parish was designated as Wimblington & Stonea Neighbourhood Area. The area was not designated as a business area.
