Hygiene Waste
Arrangements for hygiene waste, also known as 'san-pro' and 'sanitary' waste.
Hygiene waste is different to clinical waste. This is because it is classed as 'non-hazardous' (non-infectious).
Hygiene waste is treated in the same way as general waste. It can be put in your green bin as normal household waste.
Examples of hygiene waste include:
- Incontinence pads (unless the person has a medical condition requiring them to be treated as hazardous clinical waste)
- Incontinence bed pads
- Catheter and stoma bags (drained)
- Wound dressings (non-infectious)
To avoid leakages, we suggest items are double-bagged.
Extra bin space
If you haven't got enough space in your bin, we may be able to give you an extra one. We will visit you to see what you need.
Green bins for hygiene waste are emptied fortnightly. This is at the same time as green bins for household waste. For a charge, we can provide weekly collections.
To request extra bin space, please email environmentalservicerequests@fenland.gov.uk or call 01354 654321.
