Have your say on options to improve Whittlesea Railway Station

In October, the Council launched a survey on how people use the station to help unlock funding for station improvements. Now it would like people's views on the options for improvement, which include a new pedestrian bridge and platform extensions, and improved public areas and car park.

The options consultation will run from Monday 5 January to Sunday 1 February 2026 and includes an online survey and a series of in-person and online events.

Whittlesea is one of three Fenland stations included in a rail regeneration programme being delivered through the Council's Railway Station Masterplans, which also includes March and Manea stations.

The programme is supported by funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, with £3million earmarked for improvements at Whittlesea between 2024 and 2027.

Cllr Gary Christy, Chair of the Railway Station Masterplans project board and the Council's Portfolio Holder for Transport, said: Whittlesea Station is a vital gateway for local residents, businesses and visitors, so it's important that it is fit for the future. Thank you to everyone who has already taken part in the first survey gathering views and experiences of using the station - your feedback is helping us build a strong case for investment. This next stage of consultation is about the potential options for improvements. We want to know what you think about the options on the table, what you would prioritise, and whether there's anything you feel is missing. By taking part, you will be helping to shape the final proposals and ensure the station improvements reflect the needs of the community both now and in the years to come.

Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Paul Bristow, added: Regenerating Whittlesea Station is personal to me as my father was so involved in this project when he was a councillor. I'm determined that we see the benefit of the £3million the Combined Authority is investing. Better rail connections mean better access to jobs, education and opportunity, and local people deserve a station that's safer, more accessible and fit for the future. This consultation is your chance to shape those improvements, so please get involved and tell us what matters most to you.

It's really important to us to hear from passengers about what matters to them, and we would encourage people to have their say by attending one of the events or by taking part in the online survey.
