More free and low-cost exercise and wellbeing classes in Fenland for November 2024

Dementia friendly exercise is coming to a new Fenland venue in the latest addition to a broad programme of free and low-cost wellbeing sessions for all.

Love to Move class at Damsons group

The new chair-based Love to Move session will be in Doddington and begin on Thursday, November 14.

The classes are the latest additions to the programme coordinated by Fenland District Council's Active Fenland.

Also, back on the programme from this month are additional Wisbech and Chatteris wellbeing walks.

The ongoing programme of free and low-cost classes at venues across the district also includes Forever Fit classes, in Whittlesey and Wisbech, where people can enjoy a variety of activities in one session such as new age kurling, table tennis, badminton and mini golf. Plus, 'kickboxing for wellbeing', 'wellbeing dance and stretch' - fun choreographed dance classes, tea danceswalking football and much more.

New and Revived Active Fenland sessions in November 2024

The new and revived sessions this month are:

  • At Doddington Court, Benwick Road, Doddington, PE15 0UG:
    • Free dementia friendly 'Love to Move' class Thursdays from November 14, 11am to 12.30pm, in the Benwick Room. No need to book.
  • Free Wisbech Wellbeing Walk - Harecroft, every first and third Tuesday of the month, 10.30am, from Chapel Road car park, walking for around an hour (Wisbech Mindful Wellbeing Walk continues as normal on Fridays). 
  • Free Chatteris Pocket Park Wellbeing Walk, first Sunday of the month, 10am, from outside The Sportsman, Fairway, PE16 6ST. Walk of around an hour (Chatteris Wellbeing Walk continues as normal on Tuesdays)
  • Continuing also are free 'walking hockey' for all abilities sessions, which launched last month (October). The sessions are on Mondays, 9.30am to 10.30am, and Wednesdays, 6.30pm to 7.30pm, at Wisbech Hockey Club, Harecroft Road, PE13 1RR. 

Tea dances

Tea dances, costing £3 per person, include dance tuition 1.30pm to 2pm. The main event is 2pm to 4pm:

  • 'Pre-fit' activity sessions for people who have noticed they are limiting their activity or have stopped doing things because they are getting more challenging. Wednesdays, 11.30am to 1pm, £3 per session, at Chatteris Leisure Centre, Eastwood, Chatteris, PE16 6FN. Book and pay at leisure centre.
  • Free 'couch to 5k', 6.15pm, Wednesdays, to December 4, meeting at the bandstand, Market Hill, Chatteris, PE16 6BA. Sign up via: Active Fenland Bookings

  • Cardiac rehab sessions for people with a Phase 3 cardiac rehab team or medical professional referral. Mondays, 1.45pm to 3.30pm, £3 per session, at George Campbell Leisure Centre, City Road, March, PE15 9LT. Book and pay at leisure centre.
  • Free dementia friendly 'Love to Move' class Tuesdays, 11am to 12.30pm, at March Braza Club, Elm Road, PE15 8NZ. No need to book.
  • Free March Riverside Wellbeing Walk, Tuesdays, 1.30pm from March Library, City Road, March, PE15 9LT. Around an hour, variable yet usually moderate pace.
