Electoral canvassers to begin household visits in Fenland
Households in Fenland that have not yet responded to the Annual Canvass - a process which ensures the register of electors is up to date - may soon receive a visit from a council official.
Trained electoral canvassers, who are employed by Fenland District Council, will be carrying out household visits from 8 November to 8 December to encourage a response to the canvass.
Every year, local authorities are legally required to conduct an Annual Canvass to keep the electoral register up to date and ensure that all individuals in a household who are eligible to vote are registered to do so.
Fenland District Council contacted every residential address in Fenland in August and September to find out if details on the register are correct, and reminders to those who had not responded were sent in October.
Now residents who are required to provide information, but have still not responded to previous emails or letters, will receive a personal visit to their home from a canvasser.
If there is no answer at the property, the canvassers will leave a calling card advising why the visit was made and the steps to take.
Where new names are added to the register of electors, an invitation to register to vote will be sent by post or emailed to those eligible to register. These names will not be included in the electoral register until the individuals have made successful applications to register to vote.
However, there is no need to wait for the invitation - any new residents who are eligible to vote can register online quickly and easily at: Register to Vote
By completing the registration process, you will ensure that you can vote in future elections.
The next scheduled elections are the Cambridgeshire County Council elections and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority mayoral election in 2025.
The revised Register of Electors is normally published annually on 1 December but due to an election taking place in the canvass period the revised Register will now be published on 1 February 2025.
