Documents you may need

To speed up your request for emergency accommodation, we need you to provide the following documents where possible:

  • a copy of a passport or proof of identification for each person in your household
  • immigration papers if you are not a British citizen
  • full birth certificates for any children
  • proof of any state benefits you receive, such as job seekers allowance, child benefits and family tax credits
  • proof of any income or earnings your household may have and details of your spending. This is to assess the cost of any housing offered to you
  • bank statements for all accounts covering at least the last three months
  • copies of any court documents such as a possession order, bailiff's warrant etc
  • copies of eviction notices, Section 21, a letter asking you to leave etc
  • a copy of your tenancy agreement
  • proof you have been living at the address you claim to be homeless from

The process for assessing your accommodation needs can take up to a day. This may take longer if you do not provide us with enough factual information.

What help can I get?

If you have nowhere to stay tonight, then we may provide you with emergency accommodation. However we cannot guarantee this.

After you speak with a housing adviser, we will do an assessment to see if we can offer you help. If you do not have the option to use public funds, such as benefits, then we may not be able to help you. In this instance if you have children or a vulnerable household member to look after, then social services may have a duty to find you housing while they look at your case.

If we believe you have a priority need for housing help and need temporary accommodation, then you can request it.

There may also be some housing charges associated with your temporary accommodation.

What sort of temporary accommodation will I be offered?

The type of temporary accommodation offered to you will depend on your circumstances and what is available.

Emergency temporary accommodation on the day will likely be in a bed and breakfast. If there is nothing suitable within Fenland, we may offer you temporary accommodation outside of the district.

Storage of belongings

If needed, we can arrange for your belongings to be stored while you are in temporary accommodation.

You will have to pay for the cost of the storage. We can help to arrange a payment plan if you cannot afford the cost at the time. You may wish to explore other storage options as they could work out cheaper for you in the long term.

Pets

Pets are not usually allowed in emergency housing. We will review any requests on a case by case basis.
