Proclamation of King Charles takes place in Fenland

The local ceremony followed the Principal Proclamation of His Majesty on Saturday 10 September at St James's Palace in London.

The Proclamation was also read in the three other cities of the United Kingdom - Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff - on Sunday 11 September at noon, before being read at cities, districts, towns and parishes across the UK.

The High Sheriff Jennifer Crompton made the Cambridgeshire Proclamation with the Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Julie Spence at the Guildhall in Cambridge at 1pm.

The Chairman of Fenland District Council, Cllr Alex Miscandlon and Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Penny Walkinshaw, then undertook the local ceremony and read the Proclamation in the presence of local civic leaders, MP Steve Barclay and residents.

After the Proclamation, there were three cheers for the new King.

Before the ceremony, wreaths in memory of and to pay respect to Her Majesty The Queen were laid at St Peter's Church in March by Cllr Alex Miscandlon; the Leader of Fenland District Council, Cllr Chris Boden; the Chief Executive of Fenland District Council, Paul Medd, and local MP Steve Barclay.

The Union flags at Fenland Hall, March, and Wisbech Port were raised to full mast for the Proclamation ceremonies and lowered again on Sunday 11 September as a mark of respect of the national mourning of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

They will remain at half mast until 8am on Tuesday 20 September, the day after the Queen's State Funeral.
