Wisbech Incinerator
The Wisbech incinerator was granted planning permission by the Secretary of State in February 2024, despite widespread opposition.
Fenland District Council maintains its strong opposition to the Medworth Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power Facility, planned for Algores Way in Wisbech.
Updates on the Council's ongoing action against the development is displayed below.
The project is also opposed by Wisbech Town Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Norfolk County Council, and the Borough Council of King's Lynn and West Norfolk and hundreds of local residents and local action groups.
Owing to the size and significance of the proposed development, the Planning Inspectorate, rather than any local authority, examined the application and made its recommendation to the Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Clare Coutinho MP who made the decision to approve it.
