Travel Buddies

Over 65, and live in Fenland? Join our Travel Buddies event to help increase your confidence using public or community transport

About the project

The Travel Buddies project is designed to provide supported trips using public or community transport for people aged over 65 who live in Fenland.

It is being run as a pilot for the next 2 years and is funded by Cambridgeshire County Council's Care Together team via the Older Adult Social Inclusion grants.

The project will be delivering a variety of free trips, including an activity. The first trip took place at the end of March 2025, and the next will be at the end of June.

It can also provide support to help you to organise your own journeys so you can reach important places, visit interesting spots and stay connected with friends and family.

The aim of the project is to help build people's confidence in independently using local transport, especially when driving is no longer an easy option.

How to take part in a trip or access travel support

If you'd like to take part in a trip, please email transportandaccess@fenland.gov.uk. You can also call 01354 622318 - this may link to an answerphone where a message can be left to request a callback.

Places on each trip are booked on a first come first served basis. If you try to book a space onto the next trip which is full, you will be offered a space on the next trip after that.

We can also provide you with transport information and contact details for organisations who provide care and support for older people.

Your feedback

Participants will be asked some very general information about their travel habits and mobility needs as part of the project.

We will also be asking participants to complete a short feedback survey about the trip, and will follow this up with further contact after the trip. Your feedback will help us to understand if participants have been helped or encourage to undertake trips of their own as a result. This will help us to gauge the success of the project against its aims and respond to feedback where changes or improvements could be made to future trips. It will also help us to understand how well the transport has suited you and the accessibility of the activity.
