Emerging Local Plan
Fenland District Council is preparing a new Local Plan. This is an important document as it will determine what the district will look like in the future and how it will become an even better place to live, work and visit.
Once adopted, the new Local Plan will replace the current Fenland Local Plan (May 2014) (PDF) [3MB] . Documents relevant to the preparation of the emerging Local Plan are available to view and download from the Document Library.
Draft Local Plan
We consulted on the Draft version of the Local Plan between 25 August 2022 and 19 October 2022. The Draft Plan sets out the emerging policies and proposals for growth and regeneration, and the proposed sites to deliver the growth. The Key Issues Report highlights the main issues raised. All responses to the draft plan can also be viewed on the same page. As part of this consultation we also invited views on the emerging Sustainability Appraisal and Habitats Regulations Assessment. A number of additional sites and Local Green Spaces were suggested. The suggested sites for development can be viewed on the Strategic Housing & Economic Land Availability Assessment page and a Local Green Spaces report will be published on the website in due course. Thank you to everyone who responded.

All comments received will be reviewed and made available on our website. Any changes arising from the consultation will be made to the draft Local Plan.
A Proposed Submission version is due to be published in summer 2023 for public consultation. This version of the plan will then be submitted to central government who will appoint an independent Planning Inspector to carry out a public examination into the document.
The Local Development Scheme provides a timetable for preparation of the Local Plan. An updated Local Development Scheme was approved by Fenland District Council on 3 February 2022 and replaces the previous version dated 15 July 2021.
