Don't miss free and low-cost fun activity sessions - August 2025

There's free and low-cost fun and activity for all on offer with Active Fenland, including special family fun events.

Don't miss free family fun days and outdoor yoga sessions in the beautiful grounds of the National Trust's Peckover House, Wisbech, and turn up and play library-based sessions involving stories, imagination and movement. 

New 'couch to 5k' supported running programmes are also on the programme.

All of this on top of the usual ongoing packed programme of social and activity sessions for all, including walking football, wellbeing walks, specialist sessions for people with specific health conditions such as diabetes and cardiac problems and people facing mobility issues. Bookings also remain open for tea dances with tuition and refreshments. 'Get Active' have a go sports day                                                         

Everyone is invited to a free 'Get Active' sports day where you can have a go at different fun activities and find out about sports clubs open to new members.

The 'Get Active' event is on Saturday, August 2, noon to 3pm, at Wisbech Rugby Club, Harecroft Road Playing Field, Wisbech, and will focus on clubs local to that area.

Activities at the National Trust's Peckover House, Wisbech

A free family fun day, and outdoor adults-only and family yoga sessions are to be held in the beautiful grounds of the National Trust's Peckover House, North Brink, Wisbech, PE13 1JR. You do not need to be a member to take part and access to the grounds for the activities is free.

A free family fun day will be held Thursday, August 14.

The main session runs 10am to 2pm (last entry 1.30pm). Quiet hour 2pm to 3pm (last entry 2.30pm). No booking required.

Activities and entry to the grounds for the event are free.

Grab an activity card from the Active Fenland team on the day, then enjoy self-guided fun activities linked to literacy and maths. Get all the stamps and receive a certificate at the end.

Activities are ideal for primary school aged children with adult supervision and support. Siblings are welcome.

Adults remain responsible for children and must remain with children at all times.

Activities in the garden are on grass and other surfaces.

Family and adult yoga

Free outdoor family and adult-only yoga sessions in the grounds of Peckover House are taking place Mondays, August 4, 11 and 18.

  • Family yoga

Free turn-up family yoga sessions, 10.45am to 11.30am, are perfect for primary school aged children.

Adults must remain with children throughout.

Mats provided if required. Sessions are weather dependent. For adults with children only. Twenty spaces available. Gardens available to visit free if activity is full.

  • Adult yoga

Free adult yoga will be held 9.30am to 10.30am, ideal for beginners. Booking is essential via: Wellbeing Yoga in the garden | National Trust

Library family fun sessions

Free turn up and play library based family fun sessions involving stories, imagination and movement are being supported by Active Fenland.

Events will take place, 2pm to 4pm:

  • Tuesday, August 5, Wisbech library, Ely Place, PE13 1EU.
  • Monday, August 11, Whittlesey library, Market Street, PE7 1BA.
  • Tuesday, August 19, March library, City Road, PE15 9LT.
  • Wednesday, August 20, Chatteris library, 2 Furrowfields Road, PE16 6DY.

Couch to 5k

A free couch to 5k supported running programme has begun in Wisbech and will be starting soon in March.

Wisbech sessions are open to everyone aged eight plus, with those aged 14 and under needing to be accompanied by an adult.

Booking is essential.

The sessions take place 9.30am to 10.30am, Tuesdays, from July 15 to September 30, meeting near the pavilion at Wisbech Park, Lynn Road, Wisbech PE13 3AB. Sign up at: Active Fenland Bookings

Please note, minimum ages are based on the specific qualifications of instructors and we are unable to be flexible. Details of the March course will be added here when available.

Tea dances

Active Fenland tea dances, including light nibbles and dance tuition, are £4 per person.

Beginners dance lesson 1.30pm to 2pm, and main event for all abilities 2pm to 4pm.

  • Free Chatteris Wellbeing Walk, Tuesdays, 1.45pm, from Chatteris Library, Furrowfields Road, PE16 6DY. Walk of around 45 minutes, variable but usually slower pace.   • Free 'Love to Move' seated exercise to nostalgic music class (dementia-friendly), Thursdays, 12.15pm to 1.45pm, at Bricstan Hall, Market Hill, Chatteris PE16 6BA. No need to book.

March

  • Cardiac rehab sessions for people with a Phase 3 cardiac rehab team or medical professional referral. Mondays, 1.45pm to 3.30pm, £3 per session, at George Campbell Leisure Centre, City Road, March, PE15 9LT. Book and pay at leisure centre.
  • Free 'Love to Move' seated exercise to nostalgic music class (dementia-friendly), Tuesdays, 11am to 12.30pm, at March Bowls Club, Robingoodfellow's Lane, March PE15 8HS. No need to book.
  • Free March Riverside Wellbeing Walk, Tuesdays, 1.30pm from March Library, City Road, March, PE15 9LT. Around an hour, variable yet usually moderate pace.   • 'Pre-fit' seated and standing exercise for the infirm, for people who have noticed they are limiting their activity or have stopped doing the things because they are getting more challenging (our 'strength and balance' classes are more gentle and a good start point if you're not ready for pre-fit), Wednesdays, 1pm to 2.30pm. £3 per session, at George Campbell Leisure Centre, City Road, PE15 9LT. Book and pay at leisure centre.

Tea/coffee available afterwards in the library. Walks usually last around an hour. Registering in advance for Ramblers Wellbeing Walks is preferred but you can just turn up.
